projectÄUTODIDACT – adventures in music making
I believe that creation is good for the soul – it’s good for my soul anyway – and it’s in that spirit that I’ve started making music.
Music. At one end of the spectrum you have Art (Mozart, the Gregory Brothers) and at the other, a man whistling his own song to himself, lost as it leaves his lips. Somewhere in there you have music as a profession, and music as a pastime – music as a hobby. That’s me: music as a hobby.
This blog is two things:
- A gallery of what I’ve created.
- An open ‘diary’ of how I’ve made what I’ve made.
I don’t have any formal training, though I grew up in a house with a piano and my mother, sister and grandmother all play so maybe a little has rubbed off on me – unless it was on the other X chromosome. I know a little music theory (self-taught), I’ve got a menagerie of cool (but cheap) gadgets, and, of course, I have songs in my heart yearning to be set free.
Two final golden thoughts:
- “We are put on Earth to fart around. Don’t let anyone tell you any different.” Kurt Vonnegut
- It’s easy to be a hater, hard to be a creator.
Hope you like the music
